137 in Zagreb. In 1973-1974 Maria Harasowska-Daczyszyn visited Italy at the invitation of the Patriarch Josef Slipiy. In Rome the artist concentrated on painting architectural objects. Her paintings of Rome feature structures defined by light and colorful shading. Narrow streets and cozy courtyards of Rome are bathed in sunshine. The architectural landscapes of Rome are complimented by the artist’s skill of panoramic landscapes. Notable works are “View of Rome”, “Ponte Milvio”, “Monument to Victor Emmanuel II and St. Maria Church”, “View of Forum from the Roof of Museum”, “Castel Sant’Angelo”, ”View of Rome from Gianicolo Mountains” (all 1973). The artist painted numerous paintings in Rome and sold many of them there. The artist’s landscape paintings are characterized by expression, sense of form, wide stroke of brush, panoramic perception of nature, sensational colouring, and immaculate interchange of light and shades. The Academy of Arts of Italy highly appreciated the artist’s talent and awarded Maria Harasowska-Daczyszyn with a gold medal. Maria Harasowska-Daczyszyn is a well known author of graphic art works. The artist’s talent in graphic art is marvellously revealed in the Portrait of Mykola Leontovych (1971) who is a Ukrainian composer, musician and teacher, and author of the world known Carol of the Bells “Shchedryk”. It should be noted that her portrait is anatomically perfect, all details are fixed accurately. Maria made a lot of sketches. According to her daughter Christina Taran, her mother always had a sketch-book and a pencil or ball pen at hand, and made sketches at many places: in the car, theatre, on the street. A posthumous retrospective exhibition of the art of Maria Harasowska-Daczyszyn took place in 2014 in the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago. In her art, Maria constantly searched for and referenced Ukraine. US art critics pointed out this peculiarity of her art in their reviews. Soon after the exhibitions, Maria’s paintings were sold to different museums and private collectors of art, her art is dispersed throughout the whole world. Only around 90 of her paintings are in possession of her daughter Christina in Chicago. Maria Harasowska-Daczyszyn passed away on October 23, 2000 in Chicago, USA. She is laid to rest in peace next to her husband Yurij at St.Nicholas cemetery near Chicago.
